7 Steps To Build Your Ideal Morning Routine

By The Sculpt Society

Ever find yourself hitting snooze until the last possible second, pounding coffee, then rushing out the door with a half-eaten yogurt or snack bar in hand? It’s going to happen, but it shouldn’t be the default. Creating a morning routine is totally doable, and it doesn’t have to involve waking up at 5—though more power to you if it does. A morning routine should leave you feeling satisfied, energized, and ready to carry that prepared-for-anything mentality into the rest of your day. We put together a seven-step cheat sheet to help you make a morning routine that feels motivating and uplifting to you. Plus, some of our top tips for A.M. success:

Step 1: Rise and Shine (Without Snooze)

Hitting that snooze button may feel like a cozy invite to stay longer in bed—but trust us, you’re only hurting yourself here. Instead, set your alarm for the time you actually need to get up and commit to rising with purpose. Resist the urge to hit snooze: Those extra minutes of sleep aren't the quality kind, and they aren’t worth the rush and stress that follow. Once you’re up, you’re up, you know?

Step 2: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

We’ve said it before and we'll say it again: drink water! Your body has been fasting all night, so kickstart your morning with a big glass of H2O—hot, cold, lemon, au natural, whatever your drink of choice is. It'll help wake up your digestive system, boost your metabolism, and give your skin that healthy glow. Consider adding an electrolyte pack for an extra hydration boost.

Step 3: Move Your Body

Facts: It’s been scientifically proven that we feel our best throughout the day when we start our mornings with some type of movement.₁ Physical activity in the morning releases endorphins, which set a positive tone for the entire day and put you in a better mood to tackle your to-do list. Plus, it's a great way to wake up your muscles and shake off any lingering sleepiness! We like to switch it up daily, setting aside just enough time for a 10min quickie sculpt some mornings and committing to a 30 minute full body class on others. If you’re not feeling up for it, save the workout for later in the day…or check out our top motivation tips. Even if it’s just a 10min class, you're building a new habit that will set the stage for feeling energized in the A.M.

Step 4: Mindful Moments

Take a few minutes to center yourself and set your intentions for the day. This can be as simple as a 5 minute meditation or a morning stretch, whichever works for you. Starting your day with mindfulness can help reduce stress, increase focus, and promote overall well-being. What matters is that you find a way to calm your mind and body, so you start the day off on a peaceful note, versus feeling rushed and behind before noon.

Step 5: Give Yourself a Little Caffeine Treat

Morning coffee: It’s a classic for a reason. While we’ll often make a quick cup at home, our favorite way to get a caffeine fix is to walk to one of our local coffee shops—or you can put yours in a travel mug to go. There’s something we love about a morning coffee stroll outside, moving our bodies a little bit and taking an early-morning walk in our neighborhood or nature. Whether or not you add the walking part to your routine, taking a few minutes to enjoy the process of making yourself a special beverage each morning can be a great way to take some time to yourself before the hustle and bustle of the day sets in. Starting the day off with a treat is a win in our book.

Step 6: Breakfast of Champions

We’re big fans of the most important meal of the day. Fueling your body with a balanced breakfast sets you up for success and helps prevent mid-morning energy crashes. Whether it's a green smoothie, avocado toast, or a bowl of oatmeal with your favorite toppings, make sure to nourish your body with foods that will keep you satisfied until lunchtime. And (this part is easier said than done), but try eating mindfully to really enjoy your morning meal—not multitasking by reading emails or scrolling on your phone.

Step 7: Dress to Impress (Yourself!)

Your outfit isn't just about looking good, it's about feeling good—capable and confident from the inside out. This might not happen every morning, but think of it as an experiment: Take a few extra minutes, either the night before or when you get up, to put together an outfit that makes you feel unstoppable and ready to take on the day. See how you feel…for us, this one really makes a difference. P.S. Did you know that what you wear to work out can help you crush your workout goals? It’s true!

On and off the mat, our philosophy is: commit to less to show up more. These morning “hacks” help us set the tone for the day so we’re more productive, more relaxed, and even more well-rested when evening rolls around. It’s rare that we hit all seven of these steps, but it’s good to sneak a couple in when timing allows. The beauty of a morning routine is that it helps you feel a little more in control of the day, no matter what curveballs get thrown your way in the afternoon. And, looking forward to a great cup of coffee and a centering meditation makes it that much easier to not hit snooze.
