Set The Mood

Turning down the lights, lowering the shades, putting on some white noise, whatever it takes for you to have a restful night’s sleep. One key element to this is limiting screen time. Studies show two or more hours of screen time in the evening can seriously disrupt the melatonin surge needed to fall asleep, therefore disturbing your body’s natural circadian rhythm. (Via SutterHealth).  If you struggle with this, try putting your phone away 10 minutes before you usually do, and gradually increase that number until you reach around an hour. Another helpful tip for setting the mood is to gradually decrease the brightness of the lights in your room as you prepare for bed. Turn off any overhead lighting, and rely on a sole bedside lamp or floor lamp for the last hour before you fall asleep.
