Meet Maya! TSS Trainer 101

Maya is a graduate of the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance Program. She is currently a Radio City Rockette and trainer at The Sculpt Society. Learn more about Maya

Introducing the latest member of The Sculpt Society squad: our new trainer, Maya! Maya’s a supportive, dedicated fitness instructor who brings her love of dance + performance to every workout. A Radio City Rockette, she’s also danced professionally with Mariah Carey and Katy Perry, appeared in a SKIMS campaign and more…She’s all about movement that inspires joy and positivity, and she can’t wait to join you on your fitness journey. How did you get into dance? 

I started dance when I was three years old and it has been a part of my life ever since.

When did you start teaching TSS?

My journey with TSS dates back to November of 2022 when Megan reached out to me on Instagram randomly gauging my interest in teaching for TSS in LA. I expressed my interest with the company, but let Megan know that I am based in NYC. She followed up in the summer of 2023 looking for a trainer in NYC (yayyyyy!!!) and I’ve been training consistently since the new year. Excited for my classes to start later this month!

What can TSS Fam members expect from your classes?

TSS members can expect an energetic, fun yet sneakily challenging exercise that will boost your mood!!

Who is your dream guest DJ or singer in your class and why?

Dream guest DJ would be Kaytranada and singer would be Beyonce!! They both have such gooood quality music that is always THE vibbbeeee.

If you could host a TSS IRL class anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

Bora Bora! Tropical blissful place with gorgeous views all around me!!!

What’s your go-to motivational quote/mantra?

“Timing is everything.” Super simple, but remains true always!

What’s your favorite thing about living in New York?

I love that I’ve been able to make my dreams come true in this city that truly never sleeps. There’s SO much to do, see, experience here. The hustle bustle of it all deeply resonates with me and I love how I can access the different parts of myself that make me ME in this crazy, beautiful city.

Go-to coffee or tea order? 

I don’t drink coffee, but every now and then I LOVE a chai latte!

Favorite post workout snack?

During the summer I love a smoothie or acai bowl!!

Favorite sneakers to TSS in?

I was recently put on to ASICS by Megan and Katy and I don’t think I’ll be wearing any other brand now hahahaha! I love them!

Instant mood booster?

When the sun is out!!! I grew up in AZ so I live for the heat and sunshine!

What does a typical day off look like for you?

Full days off are rare for me haha so I try to make the most of them! A typical day off would consist of trying to sleep in (key word tryinggg), making a nice breakfast, moving my body getting a quickie TSS in, and then probably hanging with friends, girls night out trying a new restaurant and then coming home and hanging with my roomie watching a movie or scrolling on tik tok haha!

What advice would you give someone who is brand new to TSS?

WELCOME TO THE FAM! Congratulations for choosing to move your body, whether it’s for 5 min or 45 min. This workout is always for you and any time you make the decision to set aside time in the midst of a crazy work or personal schedule you should be so proud. Best advice I could give to new TSS clients is to just enjoy this new fun way of moving your body!

Any non-negotiables in your morning/evening routines?

Long showers! My showers at the end of the night are what I truly look forward to. As for mornings, I get ready super quick. I like to have everything set at night that I need so I can get as much sleep as possible!

  • SO SO Excited to train with Maya! TSS is truly the best workout because of 3 things. 1) There’s no crazy pressure to workout for an hr+, if you have 5 mins cool if you have 45 great but you can always do something and commit to less to show up more as Megan says. 2) It’s fun, accessible, and there’s just so much positive energy. Even when I’m dying because the combo is so spicy, I know it’s okay to take a break or modify and still get a good workout in. 3) Arguably the most crucial component is Megan. Even when she’s kicking your butt or you’re in a bad mood and don’t want to move, she will brighten your day. Having Maya join TSS as a trainer is another example of the kind of community Megan is trying to cultivate. TSS is not just for women or men who look a certain way or have a certain lifestyle, it’s for everyone. Being a Black woman, former dancer, and pilates girl, you often don’t see people who look like us in pilates, barre, and other boutique style fitness classes/apps. Through the guests Megan chooses for the challenges, content she features on IG, and now having Maya as a trainer on the app, it is so clear that inclusion is important at TSS and that makes me even more happy I love this workout. Can’t wait to train with you Maya!
